Hello! Anyone know what the current ice conditions are like at Eagle Lake and Cascade Lake? Thanks! :)

Cascade falls was in fat on Sunday. A little wet later in the day, but good. Eagle Lake was frozen over with the first climb on the left in the canyon good yesterday. Sunny falls looked good from a distance. The far climb on the left in the canyon was thin and unprotectable with screws.

Anybody checked out conditions in the area yet this season? Anything forming? I am headed that way for Thanksgiving and wanted to try to get out for a tuneup before I go to Bozeman next month. Or are you all too busy skiing?

Don't know for sure, but it has been pretty damn warm the last few days. High 50s at least

Very little ice in Coldstream last weekend. Was hoping it would come in, but didn't pay any attention to the weather the past week.

Some ice is in in the East Side if you want it bad enough.

Looked at Coldstream from Sugarbowl yesterday and it was bare. Went to Cascade lakes in the middle of the week and didn't find anything climbable. Looks like the temps are going to jump back up to 50s after the storm pushes through tomorrow. Probably not gonna see any ice in Tahoe for a good long while.

Not Tahoe ice, but Horsetail falls in June Lake is apparently getting close to being in. Long drive from anywhere, but closer than Montana...

Headed back to Tahoe again for a few days. Any ice in now? Anybody interested in getting after it if there is any, between now and the 29th?

Hey Ryan, we are planning on going out to Cold Creek Sat AM and doing the winter base camp/ expedition style. We are a team of three, thinking it'd be nice to have a 4th for roped team logistics. Let me know if you'd be interested 8n joining.

Does anyone know any current tahoe ice conditions?

It is there!
Someone with Tahoe in their screen name should post the current conditions, not ask! :)

Hey I remember in one of the threads about ice conditions, people brought up the stuff at Lovers Leap. If someone is in the area and doesn't mind taking a photo of Eyeore's Fantasy, I'd be excited to see it.
I didn't want to bump the previous thread, as it was about the conditions in Lee Vining.

Went to the Cascade Falls where my friend did his first ever lead. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend going there. The ice on the right side of the opened waterfall had several fractures and I thought it was a bit sketchy. I broke through several spots on the approach and almost got my shoes soaked. Probably because I am fat...but if you are going, be careful, easy to get your feet wet. Should be better by the weekend as temps look cold enough for things to continue forming...89 was closed 2 miles prior to the parking lot for Eagle Creek, so additional hiking on the road was required (not bad, but check the current status of 89 and plan accordingly if headed to Emerald bay/North Lake Tahoe).

Supposedly it is in, but the approach would be very long, unless the road to the tracks got plowed?

Went to the end of the pavement today towards cold stream. We were in a Civic so didn't try going up the road, BUT there were tire tracks heading up the road towards the railroad tracks. Lots of cars parked with "climbing" stickers on them. Hopefully they will post up.

Wow that tunnel ice is fat,a couple weeks ago it was more like drytooling in there... I drove by rainbow today but I couldn't tell if there was ice there or snow covering the cliff.

how long? my desire to climb mediocre ice in California runs deep, apparently for some reason.

Climbed in June Lake and Lee Vining two weeks ago, in both spots the ice was good, however I'm heading to Tahoe this weekend (aiming for Saturday) any recommendations?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
