I moved to Jackson recently, and am interested in tackling this problem. It certainly seems like there's enough desire in the community for a gym, but there just hasn't been a point person organizing the effort ever since enclosure closed in 2013. Thoughts?

Two people have been trying (seemingly unsuccessfully) to open a gym in Jackson. You should email them at climbgym.jh@gmail.com and see if you can get an update. A lot of people want a gym, so if you have ideas/resources to help make that happen, then please share!

I am very interested to hear about any updates or info on what resources or support will be needed to make this happen.

There were two climbing gyms in Jackson.

The first gym was called the Teton Rock Gym, located on Maple Way, went out of business around 2004 (?) when a newer gym was built.

The newer gym was called Enclosure and was located south of town on Deer Lane. It went out of business in the fall of 2013. There is another thread which discusses its downfall in the Wyoming forum - search for Enclosure rock gym and there is more detail there.

I believe a car dealership purchased the Enclosure building. The climbing walls were sold to the gym which is being built in Driggs.

A climbing gym is a business, and since Jackson is so expensive with a small population, I think the economics are difficult.

Enclosure was owned by Andy Laakman, who also provided considerable financial support to Mountain Project. He could provide invaluable information on the difficulties of maintaining a viable climbing gym in Jackson. You can look him up on Mountain Project.
