BETA PHOTO: A. Dihedral Crack 5.7 B. Slab Route 5.10a PG-1...

It is sunny from about 11am until the sun goes down, hence the name "Sunny Slabs." I have been there a few times and have never encountered anyone else. There are 2 slab routes as of right now (May 2009). There is a 5.7 trad route and a 5.10 bolted sport route on red Sandstone.

Getting There

Drive up Cedar Canyon about 1/2 mile to the diesel pull out and park in the far eastern part of the pullout. Hike the canyon to the north of the parking area to the only clean slab at the top of the canyon, about a 10-15 minute hike. The slab is on the east side of the canyon.

Climbing Season

For the Cedar Canyon area.

Smear, edge and stem the right arching slabby dihedral, then drop to intersecting dihedral and finish on the anchors of the bolted route next to it. Bring a few slings to reduce rope drag. It is a great beginner lead for aspiring trad climbers. There are 3 different options for the start which provides variety to the route. All 3 starts converge about 20' from the anchors in a dihedral. This is a super fun route!...[more]   Browse More Classics in UT
