Description

Strappado is a medium-sized boulder with several problems on it. The rock quality is a mix of poor and very good.

Getting There

From the parking area, cross Highway 141 to the east, head northeast for about 30 yards. The boulder lies no more than 20 yards from the road. Reference page map if you have difficulty locating it.

Hand, toe, heel, hand...repeat...All Along The Diphthong traverses an undercut lip on quality stone over a very good landing.Sit start or squat start (I could do the sit with a cheater pad, but I couldn't reach it otherwise) with hands on a pair of pinches and place a right heel. From there, traverse left along the sloping lip until the apex, then crank onto the slab, and top it out....[more]   Browse More Classics in Colorado

Since I started projecting a problem on the boulder a few weeks ago, someone flew off the highway's corner and crashed into its south face. Looks like the juniper tree absorbed most, if not all of the energy, but it pretty much destroyed it. Curious if anyone heard about the accident or how the occupant(s) fared?

Wow! That's where you were on Saturday when we saw you wasn't it? Crazy stuff. Glad you weren't there when it happened.

Yes, that's the spot, Brad. Definitely spooked me.
