Stomorica is the OG of sport climbing at Omiš.

For the most part, the rock is solid limestone with those fun features well liked for climbing. Not super steep and no tufas, but, nice runnels, pockets, rail edges, etc.

On the left side, past the notch in the skyline (and the location of a 50m rappel from that low point) are a couple of longer multi pitch routes on the far left side in the 6a grade range.

To the right of the low angle break is the single pitch sports climbing area with over 20 single pitch routes from 4b to 7b+ with most climbs at a fairly moderate level.

Nice base area with some shade trees and great views of town, the river, and the sea and beyond to the island Brac. Across the water, an old quarry (from antiquity) can be seen on the shoreline of the island. Scenic local!

Note that some anchor replacement work has been done here, but, some of the anchors would benefit from an upgrade. Also, with a fair amount of route potential, expect new routes to be added over time.

Getting There

This sector is located on the west side of the river, last crag on the south on the way out of town towards Split.

Two approaches:

Take the narrow road across from the turn off to the Ribnjak campground (leaving from town, the first right past the gas station on the left). Follow this up hill past a few houses. The road swings around in a switchback to the right, then when it turns switches back left, park near this location (couple of spots on the left side of the road as one travels past slightly uphill). At this left switchback, there's a steeper, narrower dirt road heading straight toward the crag. Hike up this road (drivable for a short distance) past a house or two and a newer vineyard on the left. At a rusty gate, walk through and continue on fairly decent trail to the base of the crag.

Another approach option would be to follow a trail behind some apartments across from the grocery store near the campground (and large sports field). Trail goes up up up and more or less right to the crag.

Nice climbing up large features.Follows a weakness populated (but not annoyingly so) by some small foliage.Finish up a smoother steep slab with the final moves to the repositioned higher anchor a bit of a stretch for the more diminutive. Head right and back left at the top of the anchor is out of reach (take care!).An easy/moderate little birdie with the anchor over a small overlap.Tall tree for shade at the base and a big flat spot to spread out for a picnic or gear swap....[more]   Browse More Classics in International
