BETA PHOTO: a few moves into Spectacle

Description

The left departure from the Tricycle/Heaven sit.

Move right Hand up onto the sloping lip, keeping left down on underclings until you get too spread out. Pop up to a shallow dish deep in the break, match, move left on improving edges until you can reach the sharp jug/block at the top of Firecracker Crimps.

Location

Start from the great sit about 12 feet right of Firecracker Crimps (left hand finds a hidden undercling slot and right hand on obvious jug).

Right hand follows the giant sloping shelf, with left hand tracking along juggy underclings, eventually joining the right for the hard finishing moves through to the finish of Firecracker Crimps.

Protection

Pad.

This was done bitd, I'm pretty sure by Ed Sewall or Andrew Sornborger, but somebody needs to check with them. I have an email out to Whitey to see if he remembers any history from here for us.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear what he has to say.

It seems quite hard to us. Perhaps we're using terrible beta, or perhaps it's just a difficult rock climb!

It's a really fun climb, requires a bit of balance for the crux move, and should be quite popular... if anyone ever comes back here and climbs it.

Someone should post a picture or Video of this one. A piece de resistance for sure. Very difficult (way above my abilities) and aesthetic.

Ok, so this thing definitely has a really neat direct top out.

Jamie Re and I scoped it out last weekend and sussed the moves. It definitely goes, but would be pretty scary. It would also be definitely harder than the alternative (going into firecracker crimps).

Basically if you match where Sean is in the photo and go straight up (past the loose looking block) there is a left facing sidepull. you can hit it by hiking a high left foot and then lay back hard and come out directly up into the face. holds get a little sparse for the next few feet and then it looks like jugs (if cleaned)

Has anyone done the direct finish yet?... I'd be down to investigate it over the upcoming holiday weekend or into early December...
