South Sister is the third highest peak in Oregon. It has several glaciers and at least nine routes. The most popular route is the South Side Route.
Expect crowds on the weekends.
The rock is volcanic crap.
From Bend, take the Cascade Lakes Highway west about 6.5 miles, past Mount Bachelor ski resort, to the Devils Lake
Northwest Forest Pass required.

This route climbs the southeast ridge of South Sister between Lewis and Prouty glaciers, beginning near Green Lakes. For the great majority of its length, it is either an easy scree slog or snow climb. Near the top there are some scrambling sections, most notably a cliffband which is either a sketchy 4th class downclimb or a very short rappel.
