Windy, and sunny. This place is very secluded. Never seen anyone else climbing. You can access the cliff by hiking the art loeb trail. The rock is full of water grooves.

Getting There

Take the dirt road past the fish hatchery in Pisgah Forest. Take the first left on the dirt road. The parking will be 471D. Follow the trail until you get to the art loeb trail and go right. Stay on the art loeb trail until you get to the rock on the left. The trail is three miles and gradually climbs up to 3500 feet.

Directly to the right of Gothic Groove, this climb follows the same 5.1 slab up to the big ledge, then takes a bolt-protected line up a clean slab face. This is a 5.10 in the guide, but it felt on par with Gothic Groove to the left and Kitty Klitter to the right so I think 5.9 would be more fitting....[more]   Browse More Classics in North Carolina

I really like this place. Remote. Lonesome. Big. Similar in size to Stone Mt. Probably more of an eastern aspect but south cedar sounds better.

A great place to take newcomers to NC granite multi-pitch. Very secluded from other climbers, but you will get a decent amount of people hiking the Art Loeb taking pics of you. The approach really isn't that bad at all, just takes some time. 5.5-5.8 climbs for days, with a lot of sparsely-protected 5.1/5.2 terrain, letting people get used to climbing 30+ ft above their last piece.

The water grooves are deep set, beautiful, and well-featured. And there are a lot of them.

Just make sure you bring two ropes or an extra tag line to get down.

We got sun until about 4:30 on an early March day. The aspect seems south-east. You won't get all day sun, just most of the day.
