Big mountainous state south of Arizona, west of Chihuahua, north of Sinaloa. Vast climbing potential but very little development save for a few very nice sport crags near Hermosillo.
Hermosillo is the capital and epicenter, and has most everything you could need from a modern city, excpet for specialized climbing gear. There's an excellent bouldering gym there, GRID, and they can give you all the beta for Sonora; they also have a decent selection of gear for sale.
If coming from the US, heading south from Tucson through Nogales is the most common way. Hermosillo also has an international airport. Basaseachi is just over the border in Chihuahua,
