The North Face area of the Solomon Islands

This is the southern most outcrop of rocks in the Geotour area. It is visible from the road. There are a half dozen established routes at this remote and seldom visited area.

Getting There

Park same as for Slash Face and Lost Pencil, and keep hiking to the last outcrop of climbable rock.

Al Bartlett has done a few climbs in this area as well; one or two are chimneys that are on the NW face, and start down low out of the desert.

This area was originally called the "Samoan Islands" due to the preponderance of wide cracks in the vicinity. Al Bartlett, Tucker Tech, Tom Burke and myself did a number of crack climbs in the area in the early 1990's. Several of the climbs were generic wide cracks but there was an incredibly clean northeast-facing chimney (5.5), with a greenish tint to the rock, on the furthest SW formation - were it closer to Hidden Valley CG it would be a well-travelled classic.
