Approaching the crux on Kurtykowka

The Sokoliki area is situated in the south west area of Poland amidst forested hillsides. The climbing is found on numerous granite outcrops scattered around the summit area of two steep sided hills. The majority of the climbs are well bolted sport routes, but there are a few trad lines available. There is some limited bouldering scattered around the hillside.

The area see a lot of wet and cold weather in the winter, but by spring the climbs come into condition and through the summer and fall good climbing is to be found.

The rock although granite feels slippy to the touch and many of the holds give odd shapes which make the climbs feel technical even in the easier grades.

There are a couple of good websites that have more information (although you'll need to understand Polish).

Getting around is fairly confusing so if possible it is best to try and hook up with a local to show you they way.

Getting There

Sokoliki is located about 5 miles South East of Jelenia Gora. Use the maps below, or better still take a GPS to find the parking area. The coordinates below are for the parking area.

The reach the crags a good location to aim for is the top of the hill (with viewing platform) and seek the cliffs out relative to that.

A great interactive panorama from the viewing platform can bee see here

Rock Climbing Photo: looking up the crack

Nitka 5.9+ 5c 17 VI 17 E1 5a  Europe : Poland : ... : Sukiennice
Nitka has steep, pumpy, and great varied moves. Unfortunately it is also a bolted crack. I know some would be infuriated by this but I fully enjoyed clipping my way up this one...(The giant block/flake that forms the crack is completely detached, so maybe the bolts are a good idea. Either way your belayer would be crushed if it came off... so try not to think about that and enjoy!) ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
