RAIN AND WET ROCK The sandstone in Red Rocks is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. MORE INFO >>>

This small formation lies a couple hundred yards uphill and slightly right from Peaches (Children's Crag). It faces east and is distinguishable by a low roof section and a varnished caterpillar feature, 2/3 of the way up the white face.

Getting There

Approach as for Soylent Greenjeans. As you get to the mouth of that canyon, you'll notice a massive white, pointy boulder to your right. Hike north, behind the boulder and up the steep hillside. Once you get to a more level area beyond the initial steepness (keeping in mind that you want to be directly above the Children's Crag), you should see the formation you're aiming for. 25 minute approach.
Alternately, you can approach by having first climbed Peaches, Sumo Greatness, etc.

Climbing Season

For the Willow Spring area.

Helldorado Days 5.8 5b 16 VI- 15 HVS 4c  Nevada : Red Rock : ... : Smitty's Caterpillar

Go slightly left around the first small roof, then traverse directly right under the larger roof to the obvious crack system. Take this crack (steep initially) to the top, climbing through the center of the caterpillar feature. The tips crack, exposed under the roof traverse, and steep jug haul crack make this a very worthwhile climb....[more]   Browse More Classics in Nevada
