The Sleeping Wall is a great area with a good variety of climbing from slabby to steep, 5.7 to 5.12c. There are plenty of moderates to keep you busy for a day or two and other area's nearby such as the "Secret Canyon". The rock quality is high on most of the routes and trees keep the area shady all day.

Getting There

There are several ways to get to the Sleeping Wall and they are all a little confusing. The new "Rock Climbing Laos" guide book offers two suggestions but we found our own route by crossing the Nam Song via the free bamboo bridge in town and then heading north through the rice paddies. We basically followed established paths and roads made by the locals and stayed near the river skirting around a few houses. We then got to an area with several houses clustered together and followed an obvious path to the west with flags (plastic bags tied to bamboo poles) that led the way to the crag. This might not of been the most straight forward way to get there but we were able to walk there in about 20 to 30 minutes.
