Check out this link. For those that want to do this, knee cords are a must. You'll ski way better, but people will look at you like you are crazy.
I wouldn't recommend skiing on approaches unless you are already a good skier, and even then you have to be very cautious. For those that can ski, though, it is so far superior to snowshoes, you'll never want to use them again. If the descent is difficult, it can be easier to wear AT boots and carry your climbing boots, or if the climbing is easy, to climb in AT boots. I've used all three options on different climbs. Ski boots suck on anything harder than wi3 or so.
