Description

One of the best views of the Baker River Valley that I have seen is your reward when you take a trip up this one. At about 80ft this is the longest route at upper crush by far. I enjoyed every inch of it. To start you surmount a series of bulges, the last one at the 3rd bolt being the crux. I find it most reasonable staying left of the bolt. Once past that, choose your own adventure up the pretty, highly featured slab leading to a final headwall. The climbing on the headwall is engaging but not particularly difficult so enjoy it, take in the amazing view, and maybe see if you can capture it in a photo. Might be tough...

Ps. Named for the ground up trad style of our first ascent (though I did break left and clip the anchor of always so not to die) and the amazing sight that greets you at the top :)

Location

The longest route to the highest point you can see.

Protection

9 bolts to anchor.

We were on the fence about the crux of this one being 5.6 or 5.7, if you climb it please vote on the grade here and I will bump it up if need be. A couple of people already told us 5.7... Also, on the easy slab section there are some crumbly feet that traffic should take care of pretty quick, but be careful.

So I went up on this in my tennies, pulled on a small pebble going over the crux overlap and POP! took my first fall on a 5.6 in 38 years of climbing....Quinny laughed and went next barefoot, a small hold broke in exactly the same place and he took his first ever barefoot lead fall.

Seems more like 5.7, and I'm sure that not all the loose holds have come off!

LOL. I will try my damn best not to fall on this route then. Going to bring my A game to this one!

Haha Dave told me you guys had to work this one ;P
I was surprised to hear you had pulled hand holds off, I did it a few times and didn't find that I pulled on anything, More of a straight mantle... That being said I broke a few tiny holds with my feet... This route reminds me of Bolt Line and it brought back memories of when that stuff at The Meadows was newer and exfoliating more. It will end up being solid I'm sure :)

As for the grade, I am changing it to 5.7 since we couldn't really decide between 6 and 7 and 5.7 will look better on my 8a.nu score card haha...

The highlight is definitely the view of the valley from the upper face.
