Description

Sidewinder Canyon is a very secluded little canyon north of the La Garita Wall. There are not very many routes, but there are a couple mega-classics like Spiderbaby and Mudhoney. In my oppinion, all of the good routes in this canyon are on the left hand side (the north side).

Getting There

If you are coming from the La Garita cash store, this is the first right turn after the Penitente turnoff. At this turnoff, there are 2 roads to take, going right takes you to Witches, going left takes you to Sidewinder. From this fork, it is about a mile to the parking. The parking area is identified by a wooden road closure gate on your right after you drive down a hill. From the parking, walk north on the closed road for about 15 minutes to the climbs.

This route is on the overhanging pinnacle just before Spiderbaby. It has strange bolting, but you can expect that from Mullin. It starts off bouldery and apparently lets up after 3rd bolt. Because of his outstanding reputation, I would be very surprised if Mullin struggled his way up this for the FA with his belay mom....[more]   Browse More Classics in Colorado
