Whether you're looking for a tough arête boulder problem or a perfect place to chill by a picturesque stream, I would recommend this spot to check out.

With a relaxing creek 5ft away, a flat landing, and a steep arête line to work, Shadow Cast is a perfect setting for a session.

"Shadow Cast" has tricky beta, slopey core intensive holds, crimps, and long lock-offs.

-As a side note, there is a resident little bat that sleeps under the huge undercling hold to the far back of the boulder to the left. Please do not disturb this little dude. He’s just chillin' and there is not problem near him... Even if there were, it’s his house so don’t mess with him. He's the Shadow Cast bat. Respect.

Getting There

Walk past the first main hill where you find the control Boulder, Pyramid, Golightly and so on. Continue past this hillside and the trail will curve a few times. Watch to the side of the trail after a few minutes and you will see the top of a boulder just off the rail to the right that is right beside the stream. A small unofficial trail drops down to the front of the overhang where fishermen frequent this spot. Just drop down and climb. Easy to find.

Follow the low side of the arête to the top where you will negotiate the crimp rail. Swing feet left once on the crimp rail to a distant left foot hold and commence the tricky top ...[more]   Browse More Classics in Virginia
