Description

Considered the best sport climbing area in Brazil. Great limestone surrounded by dense forest, mostly big holds that provided a very athletic type of climb. There ar enot many easy routes and the hardest routes in the country are currently located here (5.14c). This area is usually hot year round and rainy season sets in late november through early march, although it is still possible to climb in the area and some sector do not get wet. The area tend to be very crowded during holidays, with lines of several people on the most classic routes.

Getting There

The town of Serra do Cipó is a 1 hour drive away from large Belo Horizonte. There are many inns, bed and breakfasts, and 3-4 climber's huts (paid), some within walking distance from the crag. The actual hike to the crag takes about 20 minutes from its start in a dirt road, and it is mostly flat and shady. Watch out for snakes in the early morning and late afternoon sun.

Ninhos (meaning bird's nests) is a classic route in the sector of the same name. It is fully overhang by a small degree with immense handholds. An exposed, unprotected 3rd degree scramble must be done to get to the first bolt and many serious accidents happened here before, so be careful!...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
