Senators Highway Areas, Groom, Wolf, Hassayampa Creeks Rock Climbing
Senators Highway is the gateway to some of Prescott's best bouldering. This winding "hwy" passes the well known Goldwater Lake, as it weaves it's way up into the heart of the foot hills of The Bradshaw Mountains, just south of town.
Andrew Ryder and the Space Lord, Groom Creek.
Old areas such as the famed Groom Creek, and it's lesser known counterparts, Wolf Creek, and the Hassayampa River hold a treasure trove of both concentrated areas, and more back country, exploratory areas. A lot of strong climbers have climbed here for a long time, and the list of excellent problems up here is amazing.

Take Senators Highway from town and drive 7~ miles until you see huge grey boulders on the side of the road. This is Groom Creek.

Steep! Sit-down start at the obvious jug underneath the boulder on the right side, near the edge of the drop. Steep but positive pulls out the overhang until your feet cut loose, then a dynamic move up to a crescent incut near the lip. Slap the dish over the lip and then don't come off the finishing jugs and you are there. One of the best problems Groom has to offer.PLEASE CLEAN YOUR TICK MARKS OR DON'T USE THEM AT ALL!...[more] Browse More Classics in Arizona

Well I've tried to clean up these areas as best I could. I've organized Groom Creek with generous "areas" and boulder groupings. The info here on MP is enough to get you going up there, but if you really want to know what's going on, pick up a copy of Bill Cramer's Prescott Bouldering Guide. Again, a painstaking effort was put forth on his part to lay out these areas with incredible accuracy.
