Kathryn Kill Old Man Smoldering (OMS)!

Description

This crag is actually in Canada, so you will have to clear Canadian customs on Sandpoint lake or have an RABC permit. These two crags offer some moderate sport routes and trad routes. The warmup wall is about 40' tall and has 3 routes. There is some more potential, but it needs a bit of cleaning.

Secret lake is between 65'-75' tall and has a variety of route types and grades

Getting There

After clearing customs on Sandpoint lake, continue north through King Williams narrows. After passing through King Williams go east into Clearwater bay. After passing a small island there will be a larger island to the east. Make sure you go on the north side of that island. Continue to the end of Clearwater bay. On the far east corner is the channel into David lake. Follow this channel toward David lake.

The trail to Secret lake is on the north side of the channel almost all the way into David Lake. From the channel you should be able to see the Warmup Wall. The trail goes up along the base of Warmup Wall. Continue past to Secret lake - it is about 3/4 mile past warmup wall. After you arrive at the lake stay to the right (east). Hike uphill about 20' to a spacious ledge that you can follow to the climbs.

Poison Ivy 5.9 5c 17 VI 17 HVS 5a  Minnesota : Jeff's World (MN/CA border) : Secret Lake and Warmup wall
The first 30 feet or so of this route are on vertical clean rock with some interesting movement. There is a difficult move after clipping the first bolt. After the first half you turn a lip and finish the route on 30' of slab. Like all good slabs, this is smearing on little edges and dishes....[more]   Browse More Classics in Minnesota
