Planning on being at Red Rocks the first week of november, anyone have an idea of our chances of finding a site? We'll be getting there thursday afternoon. I've never camped there before, is there drinking water available or should I plan on filling up somewhere else?
I was there once in november, but the end of the month...that time and the other 2 times in jan. that Ive been there Ive never had a problem finding a site. And I think I drank the water, cant really remember. There is water there, but if its not to your liking, just grab a big jug from one of the nearby grocery stores on Charleston.
first weekend in November is the best time to be at keyhole. check out z tyroly on rc.com (video)
Thanks, been to red rocks plenty of times in spring/fall but have never camped. That's why I was inquiring about how crowded the campground will be, seeing as there isn't really any place else to camp nearby I'm interested in. Not sure what that has to do with keyhole canyon though...
The water at the campground is potable, so yes you can drink it. It will probably still be busy at the campground but there are 15 "walk in" sites that are almost always available if the others are full. The only down side is you can't park your car directly next to these sites. I would'nt worry too much about it. Also, sharing sites is pretty common and a great way to cut costs between two small parties. (obviously have to fit on tent pads and parking spots etc...)
