Rope got wet

I have an Edelweiss Ally non-dry treated rope that got wet when my cooler leaked. I've dried it out but I'm wondering how safe it will be.

Any insights?

I wouldn't worry. Ropes can get wet. Edelweiss shows you how to wash it on their website (which involves getting it wet obviously).

DId anything get on it besides water?

Seriously?! Do you get rid of your rope whenever it rains? Was there something in your cooler other than water?

Well ropes loose 15 percent of their strength when they get wet. So the first time you have only weakened the rope to 85%, but don't let it happen again or pretty soon you will be down to a rope that is only 50% as strong! It is really the cyclic wetting that you have to watch out for.

Of course, if you have to ask, isn't your life worth $180?

Ice was the only thing in the cooler. The beer was long gone :)

Your rope is fine as long as there was only water in the cooler. Your rope did not lose 15% of its strength once you dried it. David is either joking or misinformed.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured it would be fine, but wanted to check with the experts.

You forgot to tell him to send it to you for proper disposal. I'm always careful about "cyclic wetting", very dangerous indeed.

Rinse and dry out. ..unless that cooler was full of strange chemicals, hydrocarbons, acids, etc.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
