This summer I am considering climbing Little Finger on Roger's Rock with an inexperienced climber friend. I am wondering how difficult this climb really is, what I should bring on my rack, and an estimate of how long it takes to climb.

As I am not from the area, I would also appreciate recommendations of good beginner routes in the Adirondacks.

Rogers Rock is a great adventure! There is a place to rent canoes and kayaks up the road a little way. If you need them. The climbing is easy the whole way and does not really have crux. You could place pro every 4 feet if you want. However I would say a single rack of cams up to #1 and two sets of nuts and you can sew it up.

Its 3 pitches two of them being rope stretchers. Since it is more or less slab climbing you are basically running up the climb on all fours. So not sure if I could give you an accurate estimate on time.

You need two ropes to rappel the route!!!

Take lots of water! It was about 75F when we climbed it and 3 of us drank two gallons of water while climbing just that one route! Also do not wear black shoes if it is going be sunny. My feet literally fried.

Side beta. If you do not like building anchors you can make an easy traverse left about twenty feet and use the bolted anchors of the next route over.

As for other easy routes in the park get the guide book! It is amazing and will fill you in on all the beta you need for the Daks!

BTW I did it with two inexperienced climber friends and did not have much trouble. Did take 6 hours car to car, but we took a long swim also.

Chapel Pond slab is also another good 5.5 option. Most of Little Finger is 5.3-ish.

I second Alex's suggestion about getting the guide, although beta on the mountain project ADK pages is decent.

North Country Club Crack. Short but good. Also Afternoon Delight is pretty good. I agree with the other comments about getting the guide it is awsome. Good luck out there the Dacks are a great place. pooler
