Climbing at Second Quarry. Photo by Blitzo.

This area on the way to Sonora Pass has many rocks containing routes from 1 - 5 pitches in territory that is still mostly unclimbed. However, there are still over 75 established routes, in almost all forms imaginable. Most routes are between 60 to 100 feet in length, on granite and granite-esque rock.

Most of the routes will require a long walk or a rappel to descend, though some routes will demand a walk off.

Getting There

This area is a pain in the butt to find.

To get there, head to Sonora. After Sonora, head almost 45 (44.6 according to The climbers guide to highway 108) miles, past the town of Strawberry, to a left turn, that is marked as there being an intersection, but the road itself goes unmarked until you are on it.

This route is located on the outward facing rock just right of the deep canyon area that has the overhung orange face on it. It is sistinctive because it has a diagonal rightward facing dyke for the first 10 feet of the route, and a bolt near the top of it.Climb up the dyke to the first bolt, and then over a bulge to the next. After standing up over this bulge, all holds dissappear. Tiny pinches and delacate footwork on a fairly steep slab are all you get until just after the last bolt, where ...[more]   Browse More Classics in California

DIRECTIONSOnce you have gotten past Pinecrest and the small, very small, miniscule town of strawberry ( staying on 108) your next landmark will be the campground signs. You are looking for MILL CREEK CAMPGROUND. This is approx. 20 min past Strawberry. You will trend up the hill( 200yards) and you'll be on top of 5N06, LEFT turn. BOTTOM LINE ,stop off in Sonora and get the sonora pass climbing guide at S.N.A.C. and go to for more info. Enjoy!!!
