Description

THE HOLY GRAIL. Deep water soloing in Rio Dulce Canyon. Solid patches of Limestone up to 120 feet on Left side of Rio Dulce Canyon on your way to the Caribbean Ocean and Livingston Guatemala. When I was there the river was high and probably 20-25 feet deep right below the walls. Hard to imagine it ever being too low to safely jump but ask your boat hire if they can judge the water depth with their anchor just to be safe. Hard to get to but fun as hell.

!!!Additional caution!!!

It's easy to get sucked into the movement and flow of these lines. Especially the easier ones. But remember that unless you're willing to down climb, YOU WILL HAVE TO JUMP TO EXIT THE WALL. Would be easy to have climbed too far up and faced a terrifying and potentially dangerous jump into the water. It is relatively calm water, not moving (at least when I was there). You could totally get hurt jumping from the very top of the wall. Preforated eardrums and split kidneys are not uncommon when hitting the water wrong jumping over 80 feet (and under). We maxed out at around 65-70 feet or so near the big old hanging tufa in the picture (almost directly above the Graffiti). Stay aware. Know your limits, protect yourself when you jump and have a hell of a time. Happy Soloing :P

From the graffiti, find your own way up on vertical limestone pockets and edges all the way to the hanging Tufa a little to the left. Crux moves come at the top as you make a heady little move over the Tufa to get on top of it. All the holds are there to inspire confidence, just keep looking. Note: MTN Project makes you choose sport if you're adding a rating, but this is no sport climb. You wont find any bolts here! Deep Water Soloing !!...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
