Repairing Trigger for BD X4

Does anyone have any experience with repairing the little nylon trigger pull things for the X4s? I'm going to give it a go, but wanted to tap into the collective wisdom of mp if there is a good/easy way to do it and any special tools that would help.

Thanks.

You could either get some 1mm Kevlar cord and replace it tying stopper knots on the outside of the cam lobe. A better option, IMO, would be to contact BD and send it to them for repair. If they're customer service is anything like metolius's they'll probably send it back after repairing, cleaning, and re-lubing it.

Send it to BD, they shouldn't come apart like that. Yours looks like it's seen hardly any use. Definite manuf. defect IMO.

+1 Agree completely.

Thanks for the tips. I thought the same thing. I'm mainly a sport climber at the moment, and just starting to get into trad. I bought it back in August and it's probably only been placed on 2 or 3 climbs honestly. I submitted a warranty claim with BD, and will see what they say.

fix it yourself if you're eager to get back to climbing on it, warranty likely to take longer

I've got a double rack so I'll survive while they fix it.

my partner had the same thing happen with an X4 ... BD covered it but you still have to pay shipping and it took a few weeks

This is actually really awesome. Detailed and easy to follow. High res photos? That's a win.

Not on the X4 but on old rigid stem friends. I used .050" diameter weed whacker line.

Got the idea from here

If you PM me an address I'll mail you a couple feet of it.

@wivanoff

I like the weed wacker line solution. That's pretty clever

Quick question- does anybody know what sort of cord you need to replace it? I saw someone suggested 1 mm kevlar. The original material looks like a sheathed nylon. Even though I'm going to send my into BD this time, it would be nice to have all the materials on hand and make a little repair kit for the future.

I'm guessing since they suggest using a 1.8mm drill bit for cleaning the hole, the cord size should be 1.5mm like this stuff: ems.com/sterling-1.5-mm-min…

I am purely guessing right now, since I am sitting at work clearly working hard.

Cool. Thanks!

I sent in the cam to BD. The replaced it with a new one and sent that to me. Between me dropping it off at the post office and receiving a new one at my front door, it took only one week. Needless, to say I'm impressed by their customer service and expediency. The techs we're super helpful too for the claim- they suggested using bailing wire for a field repair kit should something like this happen in the future.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
