Description
This area is home to some new climbs that have been ascended for the first time this past summer (2002.) There is currently one sport climb, known as the Lakeside Arete (5.10a), which sits high above the main Herring Dome at about 8000 feet. There is plenty of other route potential in the area, as there are several rocks that sit ready to be led both trad and sport.
This rock will sit in the sun when it's sunny, but due to the surrounding valley, the chances of that being predictable aren't real good.
This area is on National Forest and BLM land, so you can bolt all you want, and climb all you want.
There are plenty of routes around on mainly colorful granite, so be ready for a variety of downclimb and other climbing / approach challenges.
There also seems to be a fair amount of bouldering on top of Pinecrest peak, though it is mainly unclimbed.

Getting There
Approach time:From the car: a long time, probably over an hour if you choose to traverse around Herring Dome, and from 1 - 3 hours if you climb the dome.
From the top of Herring Dome: 10 - 20 minutes.
From the top of Pinecrest Peak: 1 minute.
There are two approaches:
Approach #1:
From the top of Herring Dome, continue up the ridge to the colorful granite above, just below the "summit" of the relatively flat Pinecrest Peak.
Approach #2:
From the Pinecrest peak sign, you're there.
From the top of Herring Dome: 10 - 20 minutes.
From the top of Pinecrest Peak: 1 minute.
