Hi,

I will be coming to the US for a summer road trip and will be arriving in Colorado the beginning of July.

Does anyone have any recommendations for destinations that are especially easy to find partners. Are there any camp-sites that are going to be filled with climbers?

Apart from posting on this website and roclclimbing.com and pinning notes to camp-site notice boards, are there any other suggestions people have for finding partners?

What are some good places to avoid the summer heat?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep Yosemite has a great climbers camp ground.........but in the wrong state for you....LOL

No such place exist in Colorado. In fact camping around here is not very conducive to meeting other climbers at all. You are probably better off looking for partners on MP.......

in Boulder you will have luck going to BRC and looking for groups of climbers to approach about outdoor climbing in Denver Rock'nJammin 1 in Thornton is usually packed in the evenings so u can meet potential climbing partners, go to gear shops in Denver Wilderness Exchange or Bent Gate in Golden all staff members are climbers and will probably be able to help out they are super friendly and will probably introduce u to some local climbers, if you go to Clear Creek canyon on any afternoon you will be able to find many groups of people at popular crags like Wall of the 90s and Little Eiger. crags to hide from heat at: Boulder Canyon - the Easter Wall, the Vampire, sherwood forrest, Sleeping beauty, Clear Creek - wall of 90's in am, little eiger in pm, Colorado Springs is a little higher in elevation so some crags may be cooler in shade. Colorado Springs gym called City Rock is super BA and very friendly group of climbers ask the girl at the front (Libby) to point u into their direction they are there pretty much every afternoon. Best of luck and enjoy your trip.

Rifle is the best spot to beat the heat in the summer. Canyon runs north/south so you climb on the east side in the shade in the morning and on the west side in the shade in the pm. Plenty of locals and traveling folks will be around.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
