Description

If you are familiar with Rainbow in the summer, the winter presents many of the same qualities: meeting another party is a cause for joy, not for concern things will get crowded; a relatively easy approach (less altitude gain than, for example,to Texicao Slab and WAY more options once you are there) , and ease of determining the on-ice/on-rock conditions (just drive to Lower Falls on the Kanc and LOOK.)

However, if you are looking for cutting-edge WI 5+ and 6, this is not the place. Think multi-pitch Grade 3 to 3+ with rappels required to descend.

Getting There

The winter approach is almost always done via the logging road from Albany CoverEd Bridge (5-6 miles west of Conway, NH) then using the climber's path that arrives, essentially, at the base of "Perfect Wave".

Figure about 30 minutes of flat walking along the logging road Roughly 1 1/4 miles), then 10 minutes through the woods, and a last 5 minutes of steep. If you are good carrying a climbing pack with X-country / back-country skis the logging road is a very easy ski and you'll probably save some time.
