We are climbing tourists here and climbing. Had planned on staying through the weekend but rain is in the forecast.

I would like to hear from the local Redrock climbers familiar with their rock and rain.

Are you waiting and watching to see how much rain there is?

Or are you making alternate plans for the weekend?

The forecast is pretty moist and it looks like it may start as early as today and will be upon us till Tuesday. I'd look for another place to climb. Leslie McG

Pack it in. Its gonna be soaked this weekend. Any rain means no climbing 24/48 hrs after if its hot out the following days. MN norske

with 60% rain forecasted and possible rain through Tuesday, I'm certainly not planning on climbing outside this weekend.

Options are probably limited due to the weather being similar throughout the region.

If you're stuck in town, there are 4 gyms to choose from- Origin, Red Rock Climbing Center, Refuge, and Nevada Climbing Centers. Otherwise, head north and get some skiing in at Mammoth or Brianhead.

If the rain stops but the sandstone is still wet while you're there, you might try the Gun Club, where there are a lot of short bolted routes on limestone. I was in town recently and checked it out in addition to climbing at RR. It's easy to get to, the routes are mostly well bolted, and it's fun even though the rock is really sharp. Not nearly as fun as RR, but it beats the gym, imo.

There's a good page here on MP.

Hello,

Joining this thread as my friends and I are flying in tonight. We had planned on staying through Tuesday and it looks like we hit the perfectly wrong weather window. Our backup plan was JTree, but it is also looks a bit wet.

I haven't been to the region before. Can any one recommend any areas with moderate trad that might be protected from the weather? We are open to any rock type.

Cheers,
Kay

Looks like a hard system to get away from. Paradise Forks is pretty nearby and while it may get wet, it's basalt, not sandstone and it's low-commitment. I suggest buying a gun on the way to shoot stuff when the rain gets boring. You'll be in Arizona, after all.

Or drive 6 hours to the Creek and maybe escape the brunt of it. Get in touch with me if you need partners.

Hey Eric!

Great to hear from you. I appreciate the tips. I'll chat with our group to see if they are up for the drive.

Cheers!

Creek is showing 30-60% chance of rain over the next two days on wunderground, long drive for another sandstone area. Barely better than Jtree w out the advantage of a rock change. Rob T

There is small hope for climbing. We went out this morning but ran away when a little drizzle started. But it never rained hard. Being eco-tourists with options we won't mess with trying to figure out how much rain is too much, but so far it hasn't rained hard. Noon, Friday.

450 miles to Cochise's Stronghold, granite.

Raining in JT although have friends in Vegas bagging it and coming south, climbing is likely out.

This is Alabama Hills weekend, but same weather pattern there.

You're in Vegas. Maybe do some of the stuff you never get to while climbing. See a show, go to the hot springs, put on a plastic bag and take a hike...

Made it to Phoenix. Looking at Svens Ledge at McDowell. Probably get chased off by noon. Maybe if we just drive hard we can have a couple of days at Enchanted Rock. Dallas R
