An isolated summit adjacent to the Young Lakes. Slabby and non-technical up to the final few hundred feet, where the climbing turns to a few pitches of fifth class on most aspects. Granite, of poor to moderate quality on the East Face, but seems better on the west and north facing slopes.

There is a second class route up the Southwest Slope (can be reached from the saddle east of the summit if coming from Young Lakes). This is probably the ideal descent route - I made the mistake of rapping down the northwest face and do not recommend this.

Getting There

6.5 miles from Dog Lake trailhead, or a short scramble from the lower of the Young Lakes

This face is about 5.6 but made more challenging by the abundance of loose grit and rotten rock on the route. Decent protection is available. From the notch, climb a pitch...[more]   Browse More Classics in California
