The Chongo Shield (V5 R), Joshua Tree NP

This covers all of the boulders from the Park entrance to the Lost Horse Road. There is not a large concentration of problems at any one area which means you'll need to drive around a bit to some of the boulders. The rock in this area tends to be overall quite good with some being excellent and the lack of obvious crowds is a nice plus.

Start with your left hand in a vertical seam and your right hand underclinging a small overlap then work up to good incut jugs on a smooth face. Get your feet high and power up over a small roof to some nice incut holds. Once above the roof good holds lead to the topout. A sit start can also be done and checks in at around V6....[more]   Browse More Classics in California
