Description

Pueblo Canyon is the main tuff canyon running through the center of Los Alamos, and has interesting climbing both within the main portion of Pueblo Canyon, as well as in the smaller tributary side canyons, such as Acid Canyon and School Canyon. The rock quality is highly variable from crumbly to mediocre- (if only it were "bullet", Los Alamos would be an amazing climbing town!). Seems every psyched/bored Los Alamos local climber has spent at least a few hours here over the years.

A lot of climbing has been done in this area, in various styles. There's okay streambed bouldering, seldom-visited cracks up to 120' tall, occasionally formed short but fun ice climbs, and a few recent mixed/dry-tooling climbs have been put up. Very little of the developed climbing so far has been documented (to date). Much potential for future climbs remain.
Go explore- have fun!

Getting There

Check under the pages for the individual sections of Pueblo Canyon.
The approaches range from very short (North Rd areas, 1 minute) to fairly long (maybe 30 minutes to the base of some of the cracks near the high 'Bridges' area of Pueblo Canyon, but shorter if you rap in).

Knob Goblin (PFVP) V4 6B  New Mexico : Los Alamos & White Rock : ... : North Rd. West
Start on a low undercling on the right side of the Knob Goblin' boulder (aka Waterfall Boulder). Move straight up and over the roof, avoiding the arete on the right. Continue through long moves straight up, and top out. Very fun dynamic movement but somewhat contrived: both the featured water rut to the left and the arete to the right are off....[more]   Browse More Classics in New Mexico
