Prospect Wall Rock Climbing
BETA PHOTO: The routesetters kindly left a summit register wit...
A prominent slab on Butterfly Peak. This wall can be seen from the road and is quite impressive in size. Many steep slab climbs, mostly in the 5.10-11 range with a few moderates in the mix. Most climbs involve a combination of bolts and gear so make sure to bring a light trad rack.
There are more crags off the approach trail worth a look.
Special thanks to Kelly and Kendall Vaught, and Frank Bentwood who's industrious efforts beginning 2002 made this area a very worthwhile outing.
A 60 Meter rope is just barely suitable for some of the rappels. Bring a 70 Meter rope if you have one.
Exit Butterfly Peak Road from the 74. Left on Table Mountain Road. Your first right will be a private drive. Park on Table Mtn. Road and walk up the private drive to a dirt road going uphill. Follow this road uphill to a sharp right bend. At this bend follow a nice trail off the left side of the bend to the prospect wall.

Three more bolts up a featured face lead to a bolted rappel anchor. Rappel is about 90 feet back to the top of Gold Nugget so tie knots in the end of your rope. The FA was my first experience using a hand drill on lead. Combined with the gold mining history of the area, "First Strike" seemed an appropriate name. I want...[more] Browse More Classics in California

This Wall is really not worth the hike not unless your from the area and maybe want to try somthing that is not in Idyllwild. Even still most of the time this wall is balls hot and not to much of a reward for the long hike. But Since no one ever looks at this place none of this matters anyway.
