Description

The sandstone here is significantly more prone to breaking. Therefore, do not climb here if it had rained in the past 2 days.

This is probably the only grouping of rock in Turkey Mountain that is barely decent enough quality to have boulder problems on.

The boulders are in the sun all day long, so this is likely a bad spot for bouldering during the summer.

Turkey Mountain is a relatively popular area for all types of people. Trails lead only to the top of these boulders so they get a decent amount of casual foot traffic from people just wanting to overlook the city of Tulsa. Be aware that people may wander to the top of the boulders without being able to see you.

The base of the boulders used to be very trashed and overgrown. It has since been significantly cleared and cleaned, but there is still plenty of trash in the brush and people still like to drink at the top and throw bottles down. Bringing a small trash bag and carrying out some trash is very much appreciated.

Getting There

Park in the southern, main parking lot of Turkey Mountain. The approach is easy and relatively flat, ~1/3 mile east and north on established dirt trails and/or the asphalt River Parks West Trail depending on which route you want to take. If you hike the dirt trails, stay on the main trail until the trees clear and then take a right, hiking along the clearing trails, underneath the powerlines, until you reach a small cliff overlooking southern Tulsa. If you hike east along the River Parks West biking trail, as the asphalt trail turns right, break off to the left on the small, rough dirt trails, heading N into the trees. When you reach the clearing, follow the power lines SE to the small cliff band. Hop down and walk around to the front face of the boulders.

Electric Feel V4 6B  Oklahoma : Turkey Mountain : Power Line/Overlook Boulder...
This is the best line of the few problems here. It starts underneath the overhanging arete and finishes on the left side of the large flat-like boulder perched on top. Sit start with right hand on the good part of the arete, and left hand anywhere on the low sloping sidepull. LARGE SQUARE BLOCK JAMMED INBETWEEN THE BOULDERS IS OFF-ROUTE....[more]   Browse More Classics in Oklahoma
