Ben Crawford on Plutonia (V8) in the lowest cave

The entrance of the cave appears to be ominous. However, after squeezing through a few large limestone blocks the cave opens up into three large vaulted rooms. This is the perfect place to escape the elements because the mass of rock mediates temperatures and provides shelter. The vault of the cave also offers amazing overhanging bouldering with astounding potential. I wanted to add this to Mountain project to create awareness. For information on the routes seek the expertise of local, Edgardo.

Pads can be rented from El Búho Cafe for 100 pesos per day.

Getting There

Upon entering the park follow the stream bed to the east. This will take you away from the park. Follow the dry stream bed until you reach an old mining road on the left. Take this mining road for about half a mile. A cement block on the left will mark another small fork in the road. Follow this foot path roughly a mile up hill to the caves.

The namesake route, and for good reason. This is a powerful, beautiful classic. Start low on a flake a move left on small holds and then up and right from a solid undercling. Finish up high on a brick-shaped hold....[more]   Browse More Classics in International

The cave is both dark and dust. I highly recommend bringing some means of lighting and a bandanna to cover your face.

There were candles down there when we went, but we didn't have a lighter. I bet it would've been cool.
