Picture Peak Rock Climbing
Picture Peak on the left and Mt Haeckel on the rig...
Picture Peak is located 0.6 miles east of Mount Haeckel, and one could argue that it's a spur on the end of the long east ridge, but that wouldn't be doing it justice. The is neither officially named, nor even identified as an elevation point on the current USGS map - it's probably called Picture Peak because it looks nice from the north shore of Hungry Packer Lake.
The east face has multiple long rock climbs in the 5.9/5.10 range.
Start at the Lake Sabrina trail head. Follow the well marked trail to Hungry Packer lake. Hungry Packer lake is about 8 miles from the trail head. Picture Peak is on the other side of the lake.

This route is a great adventure in the Sierra. Based on the very limited information available on the web, it does not get climbed very often. The fact that this limited info has it rated Grade III or IV and 5.9 is a complete sandbag. Regardless of ratings, I can give a couple of comparisons to help estimate difficulty. It felt harder than NB of Merriam. Expect to expend the same amount of calories as you would/did on Western Front. I would say that this climb is more like Higher Cathedral...[more] Browse More Classics in California
