Description

A short steep wall with some quality climbs (including possibly the only crack in the Santa Monicas). Although short, the climbs are sustained for the grade. This crag is off the beaten path, so you'll likely have the nice view to yourself. On some of the climbs you can still expect to find some breaking rock. Shady in the morning.

Getting There

From the Sandstone Peak parking area, follow the steep fire road for 0.3 miles until you reach the Mishe Mokwa connector trail on your right. Continue on the main fire road to Sandstone Peak. From here continue on the fire road until just before the fire road turns sharply left and heads steeply downhill. Head straight off the fire road onto a faint trail and toward the visible dome of rock. Traverse around the rock to the left then downhill across a slab. You will have a nice view of Mt. Olympus from here. Continue around the slab to the right until you find the steepest block of rock with bolts. From the parking, 40-60 minutes hiking.

Climbing Season

Start in the pod using face holds and flakes deep in the crack, work up to the splitter hand crack cutting through the roof, then fight the pump and lieback to the top! Fairly smooth crack with some hidden handholds inside....[more]   Browse More Classics in California

Possibly the only crack in the Santa Monica Mountains?
"Splitter" isn't the only crack in the Santa Monicas if you take into account Louie Anderson's "Black Crack" at the Far Side and the start of "Wonderwoman" in the Grotto at Echo Cliffs. There's also another crack at a crag above Malibu near Saddle Peak, although that crag/route hasn't been posted.

Cohiba Crack?? Although I can't speak of its quality. Looks beautiful though.
