Phoenix area first time climbers

Hi folks I'm taking a new outdoor climber out for their first time. They have experience with indoor plastic. I can trad/sport up to set a TR anchor. I was looking at coon bluff but saw someone removed TR bolts. Any word if they were replaced? Just looking for a close short approach crag. They live in the Gilbert area.

I'd suggest you try the Pond in Queen Creek. It will be nice and warm with the sun on it. The approach takes 10-15 min, but can be a bit tricky to follow if you have not been there before. If you are willing to go farther, camp a night or a long day of driving, head up to Jack's Canyon. Easy peasy approach and a lot of easy to moderate climbs.

+1 for the Pond. Parking lot is on the right hand side of the road heading east, second pullout after the tunnel. It's the pullout with the "island" of larger rocks in the middle of it. The first pullout is for the Atlantis crag, which has a pretty fun 5.6 trad route on the right side of the wash entrance. From the the Pond parking lot just follow the guard rail next to the highway east (few hundred yards ish?) until you see an obvious wash that passes underneath the highway on the left side of the road. Cross here carefully, cars haul ass. Once you get across the road you will see the trail that goes up to the crag. There are a few bolted ladder rungs on the approach on steep rock and another section where you can pull on a sling to scramble up. It's really not THAT bad though. But there is potential for some to maybe feel out of their comfort zone. Just take it slow, pass up/down packs, and you'll be fine. There's no serious fall potential, each section is only like 5-10 ft. tall.

Thanks guys! Looks like east it is! I went by camelback today. What a circus! NO THANKS! Reminds me of the gunks. I'll focus on the pond and Atlantis

There's always Pinnacle Peak, particularly Cactus Flower East. Short climbs that you can set up top ropes. Anybody but the beginner might get bored with the climbing though.
