Due to Elk Meadows close proximity to Missoula this is a convenient summer crag to get several quality pitches in after work.
Great summer crag, gets shade midday. The climbing here is unique for Montana and can take a little getting used to due to its cryptic nature. Regardless, the climbing is worthwhile and enjoyable.

Getting There

After the switchbacks and the road levels out you will come to the junction of FS451 (Elk Meadows Rd) and FS37. Zero your odometer at this junction. From here the parking for Palace Wall is 1.9 miles past this junction. At 1.9 miles you will see a cliff up the hill on your right. Park on the side of the road here and make your way up a steep rough trail and through talus.

Easy liebacking on flake up to small edges around 3rd bolt. You just gotta trust that the holds are there but they're a little hidden. A steep finish on good holds to clip the chains....[more]   Browse More Classics in Montana
