John Maguire, a great pal and one of our own here on MP was in a motocross accident last week that resulted in a bad spinal cord injury. Thankfully his health insurance has been great in getting him the treatment he needs.
I'm sure many of you in CO and Utah have climbed next to him without even knowing - aside from maybe his sarcastic jokes.
If you have 5min, reach out and send him good vibes. It's always good to know the climbing community has each others' backs.
And if you can delay buying that new Neutrino 'biner, and maybe instead make a $7 donation to the gofundme for him that would be awesome too. It's set up to help with the home renovations he'll need to accommodate his wheelchair and overall mobility.
Thanks for posting this. As a rider and climber I understand the risks involved with both. I spent all of 92 training to do the NIAD with Russell Hooper. A shattered clavicle ended that idea. My youngest son shattered his L1 vertebrae two years ago getting off a 450 at 60mph. The neurosurgeon said if it had been one higher most people don't walk again. Sobering.
I also learned that the number one cause of vertebrae compression fractures is falls. When I saw the title I thought it was a climbing injury.
I'll be passing his gofundme on to the folks in the dirtbike community here in OK. JB
