Leading On The Terrace

Warning Stainless-steel bolts are suspect near the coast. A rebolting effort is underway. MORE INFO >>>

Description

A good route, and the only one of any considerable height off of the upper terrace. Furthermore, it is the only decent warm-up, at 11a and with larger holds than the others nearby. The route also has better gear than those around it and felt reasonably safe in 2004.

Location

To approach this route climb up the ladder near the Freedom Bar and up onto the shelf above the Ton Sai Roof. Walk right past Sweating Mekong and Viking In Heat, two steep routes just right of the top of the ladder and past an isolated route Hin Rong Hai, then scramble up a fixed rope to a slightly higher shelf, continuing to the right of another roof with some stalactites. To the right of the roof there is another set of bolted routes which share the bottom 2 bolts. On the left is Silkcat, on the right is Tom Yum. Pass these and the next route, Tradewinds, and on to the right-hand edge of the shelf, to the right-most route, “On the Terrace.”

Protection

5 bolts and nearly as many slings.

To the best of my recolection this was the first route I opened in Thailand. I led it on gear and bolted it later. It was, I believe, the third route on this formation after Max's routes Hing Ron Hai and Phet Mack. Greg Collum

I'm pretty sure someone got married up there a few years ago. There are about 7 expansion bolts all w/in a few inches of each other somewhere on the pitch... must have been a really fat Priest.
