offset cam question
|
As J tree season is starting to heat up (cool down) I've decided to invest in some offset cams and have a few question. |

Totem cams. They span the gap nicely between regular cams and offsets. I never really needed offsets in JT but if you do need it a Totem would work fine in parralel and offset placements. I have a double set of Totems and will be buying more in the blue and yellow sizes. You can't go wrong with Totems. |

Climb in Josh often, usually w/ offsets to supplement smaller (finger) sizes. I prefer mastercam offsets and have used (or own) X4 and totem basics, though the other two are perfectly great too..metolious just feels so bomber. Waiting to see if/when the new mastercam offfsets(ultralight) come out. |

Yep, between x4 and master cams I prefer the master cam offsets. I have not been super impressed with the X4's. It's purley a subjective feeling but the Master Cams feel much more solid when placing them. Master Cams were my Go To cam before I started using Totems and they still feature prominently on my rack. |

since a general rule is cams go in parallel sided features and nuts go in slots, offsets are an invitation to violate the rules. be careful or you will stick them. |

Not quite following. Offset nuts and cams are meant for funky flared cracks and pods, the exception being Totem Cams that can be used in pods, flares, parallel and just about any other placement. |
