Description

Oasis Rock is the large formation directly behind Rat Rock and is host to a number of routes which seldom see much traffic despite the close proximity to the popular Barker Dam.

Highlights here include the nice dihedral of Winnin' Time (5.10a), the interesting face climbing on Oasis of Eden, Direct Start (5.10d) and the technical movement of Tora Bora (5.11c).

Getting There

Skirt around the left or right side of Rat Rock depending upon the route of choice, but regardless of which way you go some scrambling/boulder hopping will be necessary.

Climbing Season

Oasis of Eden, Direct Start 5.10d 6b+ 21 VII+ 21 E3 5b  CA : Joshua Tree National Park : ... : Oasis Rock
The original route begins a short distance left of The Way It Should Be, climbing up and left on a ramp to a bolt, moving left, then up a steep face with 3 more bolts. From the last bolt to the top is a wee bit scary. A better start climbs a direct line past a bolt to join the upper 3 bolts. Not the best rock, but when the water level is up, a highly scenic spot. (this week water was spilling over the dam) Maybe 3 stars out of 5 with the direct start....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
