Description

A high quality 500-700 ft granite dome. Most climbs are east to south-east facing. Myrtle #2 (also known as Turtle Arches) is the smaller dome to the North along the Selkirk divide from the eye catching Myrtles Turtle dome. Glimpses of this granite playground can be had from a couple spots along myrtle creek road, and thru the trees at times along the two mouth lakes trail. (As of the 2016 there is good views of the dome from the Myrtle Creek road around the 10 mile. Fall/winter logging along the road has taken care of the trees that used to block the view!)

Getting There

Turn off Hwy 95 in Bonners Ferry on Riverside street passing Kootenai River Brewing Company. Riverside street changes to Westside road 5 miles from town at the Wildlife Refuge. Drive North for another mile and a half. Take a left on the graveled Myrtle Creek Road (FS rd #633). Around 12 miles up Myrtle Creek road, in full view of the dome called myrtle's turtle, is the Two Mouth Lakes trailhead (Trail #268). Hike/bike up the old road/trail for about an hour (2.3 miles) until the trail flattens out in the slide creek basin. If you make it to hundreds of feet of boardwalk--go back 200 ft. At this point you will be even with the "turtle arches dome" to the west. Leave the hiking trail at the 3 large dead snags and log seats onto a modified game trail. Cross slide creek on logs/rocks. Stay just left (south) of the wetland bog, and continue west on good game trails until you are beside the dome. This is about 10-15 minutes (1/3 mile) walk from trail #268. Contour down left (south) below the approach slab.
