Hey guys, wondering if it is (a) possible and (b) if any of you have ever used a Munter hitch on a triangle shaped quick link like this one pictured here libertymountain.com/product…

Thanks for any input!

Out of curiousity, why would you want to? It is probably far heavier than an HMS biner...

Should work pretty well

Are those maillons even large enough to accept a Munter hitch? It's hard to tell from the photos and the "specifications" page has nothing on it.

Thanks for the responses!

It's cheaper than most HMS biners. That's all.

Not sure if it is large enough to accept a Munter. I'm going to order one to see if it is. Just was wondering if anyone had tried it out before. Guess I'll take a look and post back here!

Thanks again!

With shipping is it really cheaper than a cheap HMS? Ive found them for $10, if you want to go cheap, buy mad rock, and buying on sale I bet you could get one just as cheap.

REI is having a sale next week, %30. Bet you could get this way cheaper.
But, if you do buy that piece, let us know how it works.

With putting a munter into a mallion, it wouldnt be worth popping it in and out through a small opening, then tightening that sleeve, then trying to get it undone again.

Well worth an HMS for the speed, efficiency, and that it is designed for it.

Report back though, would love to find out.

I see no sense in this at all. If it is for a semi permanent belay then have you considered the wear and twisting from the munter? Munters as useful as they are, are abusive towards your rope.

Curious if you're just trying to save money over a locking carabiner and rappel device? If this is the case, just suck it up and buy the right gear. Going out with the intention of always using a munter and this quick link is a very strange idea.

Munter on triangular quick link

Ordered the triangular quick link through Liberty Mountain and tested it out yesterday. The 8mm quick link worked just fine with the Munter. The rope I used was an older 10.1 mm rope that is pretty supple by now. Not sure how it would work with fatter or stiffer ropes. My motivation for using a quick link instead of a locker aside, it does work pretty well if you ever have occasion to need it.

Perhaps some merit if you were carrying them for raps and wanted to know for back up purposes, but even then you Should have some sort of biner on you...

I am sort of curious how smooth it ran.

Did you try a double munter for rappel?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
