Hi Everyone,

In the spirit of trying to slim down the gear closet, I'm looking for a small hydration pack that would work well for running, mountain biking, and multi-pitch cragging. Right now, I own three different packs.

I'd like to hear other examples of gear/clothing/etc that works well across many sports.

This red Swix full-zip is perfect for x-c skiing, climbing, Mtn biking, spring kayaking under jacket, etc. I use the thing for at least one layer on dang near all active sports when the weather will be below 60 and above 20. I've even worn if under my scuba drysuit.

Bought it on a Mtn bike trip and then found it fit the bill everywhere

One thing to keep in mind with running packs is that they may have a stabilizer attachment at the shoulder level, or other stabilization system. When you are doing longer runs, it helps keep weight of the water from bouncing on your back repeatedly and without that it can definitely cause some discomfort or injuries. Those packs also tend to be really small because you're typically not carrying anything other than a small amount of food or water, or maybe an extra layer.

I don't do much biking, but I have seen other people use the same pack for both biking and multi-pitch. 3 packs isn't so bad though. If the storage is a problem just store the smaller ones in the bigger ones.

I have a Mountain Hardwear Fluid Race Vest that I like for running. I would consider that MHW Fluid Race Pack if I wanted enough volume to help carry stuff for cragging.

The new Signature vests from Ultimate Direction are getting decent reviews as multi-sport capable packs: ultimatedirection.com/c-sig…

4.5L, 9L, and 12L versions.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
