Beautiful summer day at Herman.

This has afternoon shade, is secluded, and is made of granite. Some of the rock has fire damage, so it's very crumbly, but 95% of the rock is high quality. Routes start from V0s, and the hardest I know of are some V7s, but there are many that look to be up to V10.

I'm not the one who found the area, I know that all of the routes here have been climbed before. My friends and I named them so we could all know what routes we are talking about. So... if you know the real name or grade of a route ,tell me and I'll change it!

Eds. Per Nathanael Hansen: we have changed the name back to the original name given by Glenn Schuler.

Getting There

On Mt. Herman Rd., go west. It will turn from asphalt to dirt, at which point start your trip odometer. Stay left and continue up the road for 1.8 miles. The road will go into the woods once and then out. Right before the road goes back into the woods, park next to a small boulder at a wide spot in the road (located at 39.077919, -104.916805), again at the 1.8 mile mark. The trail to the boulders is up a steep bank to the west. You can see the boulders from here. It's a moderate difficulty 8 minute approach to the first boulder. This is main boulder. The Highball Noulder is a 30 second hike south. There is a boulderfield south of there.

To get to the Skull Crusher Boulder, walk straight south until you reach a trail going NW to SE. Go towards the SE. Follow the trail to the top of the hill where you can see the Skull Crusher Boulder to the WSW of where you're standing. If you lose the trail since it's not well used, from the Highball Boulder, go straight south until you get to the top of the hill. The boulder is just south of there.

The crux is the topout. Start on the south side of the boulder really low, and throw a right hand out to the crack on the arete. Heel hook and then go left hand to a sidepull on the south side. Balance and move your left hand into an undercling in the crack. Make a big reach with your right hand to a good sidepull, and then get your left hand to a ledge. From there, move your right hand to another ledge, and then it gets tricky. I heel hooked up high and moved my right hand to match my left. The...[more]   Browse More Classics in Colorado

I like this spot! Only ~10 minutes from my apartment. Kind of depressing to see the rock damage from the fire :(

Finally checked this area out. Such good rock! I'm really looking forward to getting a chance to start some projects, and find the Skull Crusher Boulder!

Hey, Glenn Schuler!!! As this area get some more attention, it would be fantastic to have your input on the original names of the problems - as you and your crew have mostly climbed everything up here a looong time ago.

Would be great to know the original info. I have contributed a few BPs to the area, please let me know if anything should change! Awesome addition to the Colorado Springs bouldering circuit!
