Moab Area Spring Break Visit

I'm bringing my kids down for spring break in mid March. I'd like to do some easy climbing and scrambling with them, 5.6 or lower, 3 pitches or less. Do you have any recommendations?

Just want to get the kids on top of some small towers and have nice lunches with them. They're teenagers so I'd appreciate long lunches as much as possible.

Besides hiking, climbing, scrambling, are there other attractions and things to do?

I'm also thinking about climbing the Looking Glass Arch and do the rope swing, tandem style (tandem rap/tandem swing). Good idea? Bad idea? We're gonna die, huh?

Looking Glass Arch would certainly be fun. We didn't do the rope swing but I think that would be good.

We enjoyed Elephant Butte in Arches a lot, we did some other canyoneering routes in and outside of the park that were fun. If you're looking for hiking, climbing, scrambling then I would look into the canyon routes.

the rope swing is super fun! highly recommended! my partner and I simul rappelled because its what we always do. but tandem swing I would not recommend. seems like a recipe for broken noses. Set the swing up like a top. swinger ties in and someone preferably heavier goes on belay and manages slack while they scramble up to the jumping point. and make sure not to lower them until they are done swinging. easy to bruise a heel or twist an ankle.

look up negro bill canyon / medieval chamber. its a very moderate canyoneering trip that my partner and I took the girlfriends on last time we were there. about a mile of hiking in the desert then a sweet rappel into the chamber. nice place to stop for lunch here. then 100 yards hike to the top of morning glory arch which has an awesome! simul rappel off the arch. then about two miles out the negro bill canyon to the main road. if you have two cars set up a car shuttle, or just hitch hike or pay a shuttle service in town for a ride.

Wall Street will have some good 5.easy climbing. single pitch only. can't go wrong with a day of hiking around arches and canyon lands. have fun and be safe!

Moab is an amazing place. You will have no shortage of things to do.

But that rope swing is a disgrace to the desert. I view it as a misuse of our precious resources, and I would NEVER participate in that kind of activity. This may sound trollish, but I am being 100% serious. It is a disgrace to desert rock, arches, and pristine places.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
