Description Suggest change

This is one of the most imposing and impressive mountains in the Tatras. The climbing ranges in difficulty, but there are a number of good hard routes here. The rock is high-quality granite composed of plates and split by various crack systems. Mnich is located in the Dolina Rybiego Potoku, meaning Fish Stream Valley.

Getting There Suggest change

To get to Mnich from Zakopane, take the coach to Morskie Oko. From the end of the route, walk to the end of the road. Here is found a lake, Morskie Oko, the biggest in the Tatras. On the northern end of the lake is a chalet. From the chalet, Mnich can be seen. From the Morskie Oko shelter, follow a the yellow marked trail for about 1 hour. At the junction of this trail and a red marked trail, take the red. After a short distance, take an unmarked climber's trail leading to the left. This will take you up to Mnich.

Winter: walk across the frozen lake from the hut. At around 49.2051 N, 20.0734 E, the road / trail crosses a slide path with evidence of a very serious looking past avalanche.
